While America has more "private contractors" overseas than they have soldiers, it is funny to see the "above it all" tweens on Digg putting down people who REALLY DO protect and defend their immediate communities. I know....I know...without our troops in the middle east we would all be speaking Arabic/Farsi right now (wink wink), but we are sometimes just in need of a generator or some people to fill sand bags during a flood. That, and knowing how to use a firearm to protect your family, are the root reasons for having "a militia". Quit believing the news when they tell you that these are all people named "Cooter" and "Bubba" playing dress up with their guns in the forest. They arent all anti-government (any more than Digg is) and they arent all racist.The militias are an important part of many chapters of American history. From Washington to Jackson and up to the "community organizers" you see today. Respect the history and recognize the applications for the times we live in....or just worship the government sanctioned wars overseas and make your yellow ribbon tithes while "the few good men/heroes/best and brightest" arent around when your house is under water or your town is on fire. In my small community, we would be lost without our volunteer ambulance crew and our volunteer fire department. We dont worry so much about their political leanings or what they do on the weekends when they are risking their lives to save our families and our properties.
I would be celebrating this if I could just get my Karmic Koala back on my wonky, half-dead hard-drive.

Whoever dugg this should be ASHAMED! Shun them! SHUN THEM. But really?! China, Communist? not in the least bit, sure they control a lot of social aspects of life, and still cohere to a faux version of socialism, but they've turned quite an economic leaf ever since the 70's. And, Hell, we're in this [depression] because the government spent too much money. Now I'll refrain from going off on a libertarian rant but a major reason why we're in this mess was because we made it mandatory for lenders to ease their credit standards in the late 90's, so give it some time and we've got the housing market crashing > entailing loss of jobs > less spending > overall downturn of the market. Granted, our situation is can be attributed to a number of things like poor business practice, corruption, inefficient spending, Iraq, the list goes on but in comparison to the rest of the world we're still sittin' pretty easy...Would you rather live in Pyongyang? Okay so I ranted a little, but still, all valid points.
