The fact that the bill needed to be passed on a Saturday night with the slimmest of margins despite an overwhelming majority in the House immediately tells you that legislation is of dubious value. After all, the majority of Americans are against this bill and the politicians know it. This won't sail through the Senate, that's for sure. I am not a constitutional scholar, but my guess is this fine/jail threat for not opting in will be ruled unconstitutional. The thuggery of government has to have some limits.

I think the reason regifting has such a bad reputation is that all we give (and buy for our selves) is crap! If things weren't so *****, mass produced and broke all the time it would make a lot more sense to regift. (Technology excluded of course...)I'm actually quite pissed-off at valves "you wouldn't give a way a opened gift message" when arguing that you can't gift people games you have from your own collection instead of buying them. Why shouldn't you? Don't try to create problems of "bad, used" gifts where there are none! It's a stupid social protocol..

@RizzosBack I agree with you. The consumer should buy the best product they can. It's comparative advantage, simple economics. Thats why I was against the bailout we could've spent that money retraining and retooling most of the workers to install a high-speed train throughout the US.But also why did we have cash for clunkers if not to help the American based car companies? The problem was we spent money to benefit the Asian carmakers....Kind of makes cash for clunkers pointless, except for the people it helped get a new car but that isn't AS important as fixing the economy long term.
